After astounding disclosures about a fraudulent national identity card issued to Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan ordered re-verification of all computerized national identity cards (CNICs) within a period of six months. Addressing a
news conference in Islamabad on (May 27), Khan said it was a must to
authenticate identities of all nationals because fraudulent CNIC issued to Mullah Mansour under the fake identity of Wali Muhammad, had given the world the impression that anyone could acquire Pakistani identity card. “It is not
the case of Wali Mohammad alone. There are bigger cases than him. And this has been going on for the past 10 to 12 years. And it has happened so blatantly that I wonder if we were asleep or whether this happened on purpose. This is a very difficult issue and we have to work on it together,” Khan said.
