Why buy organic? Is it really better for you? What are the benefits? Does it really give you a lot more nutrition? Will it really make me feel better? Is it cost efficient?

Let’s start with the basics. The word organic is based on the way farmers grow and produce products such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, grains and even meats. If a product is produced organically farmers do not use chemicals to fertilize, rather they use a better rotation process and use natural items such as manure for fertilization. There are no toxins, artificial colors or preservatives when a product is produced organically. Another name for organic could be "Nature’s Way."

Now that you know what it means to go organic, let’s look at the effects of not eating organically and compare. If a product is not labeled 100 percent organic, then it has been processed with chemicals or pesticides either during the growth process or the packaging process. Over time, studies have shown that these added chemicals can cause kidney trouble and can damage the immune system. On the other hand, studies have shown that organic foods have higher vitamin value and help build the immune system. One example is there are higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids in organic milk. There is also less risk of contamination or bad bacteria in meats that are produced organically. Sounds like the better choice to me.

What about cleaning products? Have you ever thought of the impact they have on the environment or your body? After all, cleaning is an important part of our everyday life, right? Did you know that non organic cleaning products may contain harmful chemicals and poisonous toxins? Did you also know that when you spray these non-organic products into the air during cleaning, you are breathing the toxins right into your lungs? This can be hazardous to infants and younger children. It can also be harmful for those who suffer from asthma. Most people but cleaners with a bleach base for their bathroom and kitchen because they feel it will be the most effective way to disinfect and get things clean. This is totally a myth and over time can even be harmful to your health.

So, if non organic cleaning products are bad for you, then what is the alternative? Natural cleaners have been proven to be just as effective and more cost efficient. That’s right, I said more cost efficient. You see we can use many things we already have in our kitchen as cleaners. There are many home remedies to the toxic cleaning products. Vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda are just a few. I have learned that vinegar or lemon juice are great ways to clean your glass mirror or windows. Vinegar is also very effective in removing mildew from surfaces or showers. If you would rather not make your own product, then there are many cleaning products you can purchase online in bulk and save money.

Whether you are an infant or toddler; teenager or adult; organic is the way to go! It is better for the environment and better for your health. Take some time and do the research and learn to live the healthy way.
